A Main Street Christmas

It's almost time for the annual A Main Street Christmas celebration!

There are jugglers, singers, food, crafts, storytrellers and two Christmas parades - the annual Santa Claus Parade in the aftenoon, and the famous Farmers Parade of Lights in the evening.

For complete details, see the A Main Street Christmas website.

Come and join us! Come for the day, or even be in the Parade.

Christmas Tree Lighting

The Schomberg Village Association would like to announce the 11th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Sunday, November 25th. Come and enjoy the start of the festive season with some holiday music and carols. There will be hot drinks and cookies to help us enjoy the evening.

Join us at 5:00, the official tree lighting ceremony will be at 5:15 p.m., when the switch is flipped and the lights begin to sparkle and shine on Main Street.

Our living Christmas tree, kindly loaned to us by the Hoare family at 235 Main St, is 40 feet tall and illuminated by hundreds of twinkling lights and ornaments. Please join us there for the First Annual Holiday Tree Lighting!

A Main Street Christmas Craft Show

And don't forget the annual Christmas Craft show.

Look forward to more than 25 crafters selling wonderful hand-crafted items including Jewellery, Bags, Candles, Artwork, Chocolate Goodies and Preserves. Visit the Craft Show page for more details throughout the fall.

Welcome to Schomberg

Schomberg is a small village located at the north end of King Township.

Nestled on the north shoulder of the Oak Ridges Moraine, the Village and its surrounding area is a wonderful place to live, work and play.

In addition to the friendly community atmosphere, the village plays host to a number of activities throughout the year.

In the early winter, the Dufferin Marsh Committe sponsors a Community Skate and Bonfire on the Dufferin Marsh.

The Schomberg Agricultural Society hosts the annual Schomberg Agricultural Fair in May and the Community Bonfire in the Fall.

This year marks the ninth incarnation of the Schomberg Village Street Gallery.

The Schomberg Village Street Gallery turns Main St into an art gallery and sale in September and activities for the year wrap up in the first week of December with the "A Main St Christmas" celebration - an evocation of a country Victorian Christmas, with parades, carolers, food and fun.

Throughout the year, shops (both along Main St, and in the surrounding area) offer both special treasures and day to day items - underlining the fact that this is a real living community - not an artificial marketing opportunity.

We'd love for you to drop by and see!

Schomberg Village Association - Supporting the Community

We believe in Schomberg - and each year we "put our money where our mouth is", so to speak, and invest in the community.

The Schomberg Community Farm is a fairly new organisation, but has made great strides in a short time.

Their goal is to "provide opportunities for the community to connect with the land in support of healthy food sources within a natural ecosystem".

To this end, they've been cleaning up the land and barn to the east of the soccer fields and the water treatment plant on Western Ave.

They're working on creating a Community Farm where people can grow veggies, demonstration gardens can be planted, and local children (and adults!) can learn about gardedning and food. They've started planting already; this spring local children planted over 100 garlic cloves for next years' harvest. They've held workshops on permaculture, and have partnered with the York Region Food Network and Seeds for Change to create healthier neighbourhoods through school and community gardens.

We're pleased to be able to help. We've donated $500 to their "Field over to Farm" campaign, helping them to improve access to the Farm by building a bridge over the Schomberg River, which lies at the west of the Farm.

For more information visit the Schomberg Community Farm website.
