Funding Application Approved by Trillium
I am pleased and excited to announce that the application to the Trillium Foundation has been approved. The funding is approximately $223,000 over five years. A large part of the money is allocated towards hiring a staff person to implement the management plan. The collaborative will begin immediately to advertise the position and will have a person in place in the next few months.

There are three projects on line for this year.

The first is the restoration of the west pond beside Cooper Drive and the construction of weirs to maintain the water level in the Marsh. The second is to erect signs identifying the wetland as a nautral area. The third is to oversee the replanting of the trees along Dr. Kay Drive.

There will be lots of activities and opportunities for volunteer work over the next few years. It is an exciting time to be involved.

An official announcement of the funding is being organised. We will be calling members to let them know when it will be. We encourage everyone to attend.

Maple Syrup Demonstration
On May 10th, some of the Marsh Committee members spend the day in the Marsh boiling sap to make maple syrup. About 100 litres of sap was collected through March and April and we ended up with approximately 3 litres of delicious syrup. It was a long day sitting around the fire; but the weather co-operated and everyone had a good time.

Thanks to Doug, Eric, Charles, Michael, Phoebe, Rachel, Aidon, Reva, Liz, Jill, Garth and Gary for your help.

Thanks also to Cathering Purcell at the Township of King who organised the fire permit for us.

Spring Activities
Wine Tasting
We are gearing up for our yearly wine tasting at Sheena's Kitchen. This year it will be held in the evening on June 21st. Tickets will be available for sale shortly. If you wish to purchase tickets for yourself, or to sell them to others, please call Mary (905-939-7544) or Linda (905-939-7079).

Schomberg Fair
We will be hosting a booth at the Schomberg Fair again this year. The booth is being organised by Donna Parrish. She will be calling for volunteers to oversee the booth. Hope you can help if she calls!

Bird Walk
On Saturday May 25th at 6:30am we will be conducting a bird/nature walk around Schomberg. Each year we try to go a different habitat close to the Dufferin Marsh. If you would like to join us, meet us at the pump house on Dr. Kay Drive

West Nile Virus
Many people are concerned about West Nile Virus. One of the best fact sheets available about the disease is provided by the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority. To get a copy, call them at 416-661-6600 or visit their website at www.trca.on.ca. The article is attached to the "West Nile Information PDF" link at the bottom of the page. You'll need a copy of Acrobat Reader to view the downloaded file.
